Securely Edit and Remove Metadata Using Power PDF

Having all the tools you need to edit and manage your PDFs and metadata is essential. Kofax Power PDF is a remarkable PDF editor that provides complete access to your documents and metadata. Changing your files, setting up custom security, and editing metadata helps you protect your private information while sharing documents freely.

What is Metadata?

Metadata provides information about a digital file. Essentially, it is data about data. It doesn’t show the file’s content but indicates structured information about the document. This data includes information that makes data management more effortless. You can also use metadata to tag certain files with specific terms to help group them with other associated documents.

Metadata allows you to describe, manage, and structure data logically. For an image, the metadata may include the resolution, camera type, and time of creation. PDF metadata usually provides essential information that can help you track the document from its origin to its current state.

Information Categories Found in Metadata

  • Author name
  • The location where the document was created
  • Date of document creation
  • When the file was last edited/accessed and by whom
  • Copyright information
  • File size
  • The location of the file on your computer
  • ISBNs

The Role of Metadata in Digital Documents

Metadata is in a file’s document properties, and the purpose of the information is to make tracking and working with documents more accessible. When working with large volumes of information, you must often search your entire server to find specific documents. One way that metadata comes in handy is by making your data easily searchable.

Consistently using the metadata means you can search by author, topic, or any custom fields you set up. Including metadata in your workflow and ensuring that everyone on the team knows how to set up and manage it for information and security purposes minimizes the risk of data mismanagement and leaks.

It can be necessary to edit or even remove the metadata from a file to ensure the security of a business and keep specific information classified. Being vigilant about data security keeps private data from accidentally landing on someone else’s system.
