1. What is a Document Scan Server??
The Document Scan Server is an integrated hardware/software solution
that offers tools to scan-enable core business applications and
gives users the ability to drive a document scanner from a scan-enabled
application. It
consists of three main parts:

2. What is the Document Scan Server Utility?
The Document Scan Server Utility (which is also referred to as the Utility in the Document Scan Server Administrator's Guide) is the thin client application that resides on the Document Scan Server and is accessed with an Internet browser from any computer on your network.

3. What is the Document Scan Server Management Console?
The Document Scan Server Management Console (also referred to as the Management Console in the Document Scan Server Administrator's Guide) is the optionally-installed Windows-based application that monitors Document Scan Servers appropriately connected to the network and discovered by or manually added to the Document Management Console.
The Document Management Console is installed on one or more host computers on the network. However, the Document Management Console can be operated from only one computer at a time.
The Document Management Console enables the configuring and monitoring of multiple Document Scan Servers within a single session.
5. How are Document Scan Server Images Named?
If the Document Scan Server generated image files are saved to the destination specified in the active scan profile, the files are named according to the convention in the table below (for example ScanSvr54322B-ScannerDefault-20051111151304- F-00001.tif).

| Unique Scan Server Name | The host name of the Scan Server that initiated the scan. By default this is Scansvr with the last 6 digits of its MAC address appended. |
| Unique Profile Name | The name of the scan profile that was used to scan the image. |
| Date/Time | The date and time the image was scanned, in the format YYYYMMDDHHMMSS with YYYY being the four-digit year, MM the two-digit month, DD the day, HH the hour in 24-hour format, MM the minute, and SS the second. |
| Side | The side that was scanned: F for front and B for back. |
| Sequential Number | A five-digit sequential number including leading zeros. This number restarts at 00001 at the beginning of each scan session, and increments to account for all the pages scanned in the session. |
6. What types of image files and compression methods are used by the Document Scan Server?
The Document Scan Server supports the output of bitonal, grayscale, and color TIFFs. The table below lists thecompression method used for each output type when saving the images to the destination folder.

The Kofax Document Scan Server Support group is comprised of two subgroups (discussed on the Support Options Web page), whose members are knowledgeable in all aspects of the Document Scan Server product, including installation, configuration, operation and development.
