It is a Kofax-developed product offering functionality and price points not available in competitive products.

Ascent Xtrata 1.7x Questions

1. What versions of Ascent Capture have been certified to work with Ascent Xtrata 1.7x.

Ascent Xtrata 1.7 and 1.7 Service Pack 1 have been certified for the following versions of Ascent Capture:

  • Ascent Capture 6.1
  • Ascent Capture 7.0
  • Ascent Capture 7.5

Note:  Ascent Xtrata 1.7 or 1.7 Service Pack 1 is required for using Xtrata with Ascent Capture 7.5. Once you upgrade to Ascent Capture 7.5, you must upgrade or install Ascent Xtrata 1.7x before you attempt to run Xtrata Forms Setup because of incompatible OCR engines.

2. What new features were introduced in the Ascent Xtrata 1.7 release?

The main feature enhancements for Ascent Xtrata 1.7 apply to some minor SPRs and concern the installation and usage of an own recognition engine.
  • Finereader 6.0
    Ascent Xtrata 1.7 uses a different recognition engine then provided by Ascent Capture 7.0 SP1 and 7.5. In order to guarantee a trouble-free processing Finereader Version 6.0.0.770 is installed by Xtrata 1.7.
  • new Xtrata 1.6 Features

The main feature enhancements for Ascent Xtrata 1.6 apply to numerous SPRs and concern in particular Ascent Xtrata Server. Hereby the performance of the server was improved tremendously.

Additional SPRs were fixed and results in a great enhancement of the registration.

  • Improved Server Support
    There have been a number of improvements to the Ascent Xtrata Server. Most of these involve an increase in performance and improved consistency.
  • Improved Registration Support
    Ascent Xtrata registration performance is better in this release.

4. What steps should I follow to repair my Ascent Xtrata 1.7x program.?

You can repair your Ascent Xtrata 1.7 or 1.7 Service Pack 1 installation from the Ascent Xtrata Setup Maintenance program. This reinstalls all Ascent Xtrata components, and registers the Xtrata Server custom module, Xtrata Forms Setup custom panel, and Xtrata correction custom panel.

To repair Ascent Xtrata 1.7x

  • Shut down any applications (including the Control Panel, virus detection software, and toolbars) that might be running on the station where you want to repair the Ascent Xtrata installation.
  • Insert the Ascent Xtrata 1.7 or 1.7 Service Pack 1 installation CD into the CD drive. The CD supports AutoPlay, so the installation will automatically start. (If it does not start, run Setup.exe from the CD.) The installation program will detect the installed version of Ascent Xtrata and automatically start the Ascent Xtrata Setup Maintenance program.

  • Select Repair to reinstall all Ascent Xtrata components.
  • Click Next and follow the instructions presented to you.

5. How can I remove (uninstall) my Ascent Xtrata 1.7x program.?

You can remove (uninstall) all Ascent Xtrata 1.7 or 1.7 Service Pack 1 components from the Ascent Xtrata Setup Maintenance program or the Add/Remove Programs utility from the Windows Control Panel.

  • To remove Ascent Xtrata 1.7x (with Ascent Xtrata Setup Maintenance)
  • Shut down any applications (including the Control Panel, virus detection software, and toolbars) that might be running on the station where you want to remove the Ascent Xtrata 1.7 installation.
  • Insert the Ascent Xtrata 1.7 or 1.7 Service Pack 1 installation CD into the CD drive. The CD supports AutoPlay, so the installation will automatically start. (If it does not start, run Setup.exe from the CD.) The installation program will detect the installed version of Ascent Xtrata and automatically start the Ascent Xtrata Setup Maintenance program.
  • Select Remove to uninstall all Ascent Xtrata components.

    Note:  While uninstalling Ascent Xtrata 1.7x, the Setup program tries to unregister Ascent Xtrata components. If it fails, you will be prompted to stop the uninstallation process. It is recommended that you stop the process, remove Xtrata Server from all batch classes using it, and then restart the uninstallation.

  • To remove Ascent Xtrata 1.7x (with Add/Remove Programs)
  • Open the Windows Control Panel on the station where you want to remove Ascent Xtrata, and select Add/Remove Programs.
  • Select Ascent Xtrata from the list of currently installed programs.
  • Click Remove and follow the instructions presented to you.

6. How can I run Ascent Xtrata as a Service?

Ascent Xtrata 1.7 Service Pack 1 allows the Ascent Xtrata Server queue to run as a service. Follow the instructions below to properly configure your Ascent Xtrata 1.7 Service Pack 1 Server to run as a service during your Ascent Xtrata 1.7 SP1 installation.

Ascent Xtrata Service Installer

The Ascent Xtrata Service Installer is a utility that allows you to install the Ascent Xtrata Service as a service. You can configure the Ascent Xtrata Service Installer using the XtrataServiceInstaller.exe from the Ascent Xtrata installation folder (<ProgramFiles>\Ascent\Bin\Xtrata\XtrataServiceInstaller.exe).

Note: Ascent Capture user profiles are not supported.

Log on as:
Choose here the account that the service should use and enter the account logon data if not the local system account is used.

Warning: When you have a client/server installation of Ascent Capture please ensure that the account used for the Ascent Xtrata service has access to the image folder and the folder Local\Logs of Ascent. By default, the “Local System Account” on a client installation will not have access to the network resources.

Startup type:
Define here the startup type for the registration of the Ascent Xtrata service(s).

Number of services:
Defines the number of services that will be registered on this computer. It is recommended that you register one service per processor. For example, if you have a two processor machine, we recommend that you register two services. Alternatively, you can select <No Services> when you do not want to register the Ascent Xtrata Service. If necessary, you can modify the registration of the services using the Xtrata Service installer utility located in the Ascent Xtrata installation folder (<ProgramFiles>\Ascent\Bin\Xtrata\XtrataServiceInstaller.exe).

Polling interval (seconds):
Define here the interval the service uses for polling.

Delete definition batches:
Select this option to delete the batches after processing.

The configuration concerning the account data and the startup type of the registered Ascent Xtrata service(s) can also be done by using the Windows Services Manager.

Logging

The following mechanism was introduced to distinguish between the log entries of each process.

An additional field has been added after the time field to indicate the logging server/service:

  • [Axxxxx] indicates the Server application with process id xxxxx
  • [Srvcxx] indicates the Service number xx

For example:

Note that the error number is unique to every service/server. The error number is the fourth field in the log row. For instance using the example above, the error number for the first row is 00000001.

Errors are also logged in the Ascent Capture ERR_YYMM.txt file.

Kofax Capture / Ascent Capture Support

The Kofax Capture / Ascent Capture Technical Support group is comprised of three subgroups (discussed on the Support Options Web page), whose members are knowledgeable in all aspects of the Kofax Capture / Ascent Capture product and Kofax / Ascent modules, including installation, configuration, operation and development. The Kofax Capture / Ascent Capture Installation, Configuration, Operation, and Web product's Technical Support group can assist with installation and configuration of the base Kofax Capture / Ascent Capture products as well as troubleshooting problems that occur in production.  They have lots of experience with installation problems, batch class setup, patch code and bar code problems, hardware key issues, OCR engines, MSDE etc. They provide support for the Ascent Xtrata and Kofax Capture Import Connector - Fax / Ascent Fax products. They also can assist with the Kofax Capture / Ascent Capture Web products such as the Kofax Capture Network Server / Ascent Capture Internet Server and the Kofax Capture Import Connector - Web Services / Ascent Collection Server.  They can assist with installation or connectivity problems across LANs, WANs or the Internet.
