None of the Ascent Fax 1.0 product components are required to be installed on the Captaris RightFax 9.x server. Ascent Fax 1.0 will operate successfully when all Ascent Fax 1.0 product components are installed on a non-RightFax server.

If you are connecting the Ascent Fax 1.0 product to a Captaris RightFax server, the following requirements must be met.

  1. You have a Captaris RightFax 9.x server installed and running successfully.
  2. A RightFax COM license installed and enabled on the RightFax 9.x server. COM is part of the following RightFax solutions.

10. In case of RightFax COM-access, do the RightFax COM components implement HTTP/HTTPS in the background or do I have a choice?

  1. You have a Captaris RightFax 9.x server installed and running successfully.

13. How does Ascent Fax 1.0.x handle document separation? Is every fax delivered as a separate document? What about multipage faxes?

Ascent Fax 1.0 initial release did not support document separation, however, Ascent Fax 1.0.43 does. In order to run Ascent Fax 1.0.43, you must install the Ascent Fax 1.0.43 patch directly over each Ascent Fax 1.0 initial releaes client. You can download the Ascent Fax 1.0.4.3 patch from the Patches section on the Ascent Fax 1.0 Downloads Web page (click here).

Ascent Fax 1.0.43 now supports automatic document separation. To use the feature you must configure Ascent Fax to use either no form type or loose pages: In the Ascent Fax - Extension Configuration dialog box, select either “(None)” or “(Loose Pages)” in the Form type drop-down list.

If you select “(None)” as the form type, each fax is imported into a separate document without a form type classification. If you select “(Loose Pages)” as the form type, fax pages are imported into Ascent Capture as loose pages.

NOTE: If you use this feature, it is not possible to map index fields to a document. Also, if you select“(Loose Pages),” all of the pages of multiple fax messages are added to a single batch. This means that individual fax messages may be separated incorrectly.

14. Is automatic page rotation/orientation supported by Ascent Fax 1.0?

Automatic page rotation/orientation is not supported by Ascent Fax 1.0. However, this feature is supported by the VirtualReScan (VRS) product when it is integrated with Ascent Capture. The auto-orientation feature of VRS is compatible with the documents delivered by Ascent Fax (usually 200dpi, b/w images).

15. Does Ascent Fax 1.0 support failover?

Yes, Ascent Fax 1.0 supports failover. Currently, this is only possible with a TOPCALL Fax Server, whose core component is the TCOSS Server. To connect to applications via Web Services, an additional component is required: TWS (TOPCALL Web Services).

Ascent Fax is connected to one instance of TWS, which is then connected to the Primary and the Secondary TCOSS servers as shown below.

For more information see chapter "3.3 Fault tolerant systems" in the TOPCALL TWS manual.
