1. What new features are in the INDICIUS 5.5 release?
The following new features are found in the INDICIUS 5.5 product release.
Email Processing
Emails and their attachments can now be processed using INDICIUS modules. The contents of email bodies and image, PDF or text file attachments can be used for classification, separation and extraction and can be displayed in the keying modules. Attachments of other types (such as Word or Excel files) are with the email but can not be used in the processing. PDF files that contain content (not just an image) can be processed without requiring OCR, thus increasing system throughput and accuracy.
It is important to note that an Email Processing solution utilizing the Ascent Capture Email Importer (ACEI) must currently include the “INDICIUS Email Batch Converter” custom module in order to restructure the batch into an appropriate structure (one Ascent document per attachment). This custom module is available through KPSG.
This feature extends the INDICIUS offering from just paper to the electronic document world. Users can now seamlessly process email bodies and attachments through INDICIUS and export them into an ECM system. It is important for attachments association to remain visible to the user (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc). It aids regulatory requirements for ensuring documents received together then archived remain unchanged. INDICIUS is unique within the Kofax product portfolio, that it processes paper and electronic documents and attachments. It is irrelevant how the data comes into your organization – both batch classes can be handled (electronic, scanned).
Configuration Libraries
INDICIUS now includes a powerful set of script libraries that massively simplify the scripting of complex classification/separation and extraction solutions. The libraries can be easily dropped into any new solution and drastically reduce the amount of script that needs to be written. There are 3 libraries:
All of the libraries are supplied as both open and encrypted scripts. The encrypted versions are directly supported as part of the product. The open versions can be edited and extended if necessary.
- Classification/Separation Library
- Extraction Library
- Logging Library
Document Review enhancements
Document Review is an extremely efficient production module that enables users to resolve document classification and separation problems as quickly as possible. Document Review has been enhanced to offer several new capabilities:
- Suspend and resume functionality
Processed batches in Document Review can now be placed in a suspended state and resumed later; the work will be saved so that if another user reopens the batch it will start at the same place the previous user left off without any loss of work- Customizable menu shortcut keys
A new level of configuration of document review has been developed. This displays basic and extended information for each document or page in the batch. You now have the ability to configure the shortcut keys in Document Review that may be more intuitive and should improve the efficiency of processing.- View additional information
Additional information can be configured to display on the different levels (document, page, etc.) of Document Review to facilitate processing and help identify potential errors in batches. This means that more meaningful information about the document can be displayed against a batch – eg: where the document originated from – scan, email or even what department it originated from.- Jump to next problem
When working in Document Review, the focus will automatically jump to the next problem as soon as the current one is fixed expediting document processing. This new feature aids the speed of reviewing and reduces key strokes when trying to fix problems. The feature can be tailored to the individuals that use Document Review.- “QuickSelect” document type
This selection enables the reclassification of documents to a specified document type with a single keystroke.Multi-Engine Voting (RecoStar) performance enhancements
The additional voting engine (RecoStar) throughput limit has been increased from 150 characters per second (cps) to 250 cps. It has also been changed from a per-machine limit to a per-instance of Recognition limit, meaning that the Multi-Engine Voting now scales successfully on dual or quad-processor installations.
Documentation enhancements
All of the configuration, integration and scripting help has now been consolidated into a single help system and is accessed through an intuitive Help Viewer.
Licensing Modifications
A number of changes have been made to the INDICIUS licensing:
- Image classification is now available for fixed-form solutions (INDICIUS Free-form Classification license is no longer needed for image classification)
- Modifications have been made to simplify the process to create and distribute evaluation and temporary licenses. Ascent Capture has the mechanism to issue an emergency (temporary) license (time limited and volume limited) which INDICIUS also responds to which ensures no interruption to production.
- INDICIUS evaluation licenses are in sync with Ascent Capture and so when you receive an evaluation of Ascent Capture you also have the capability to evaluate INDICIUS. Licensing of features and throughput are controlled through the Ascent Capture dongle. No additional dongles are required. Feature and throughput upgrades are easier to provide to end-users, since they can be delivered by Ascent Capture reactivation.
- The requirement for the INDICIUS Bank Details Validation license has been removed. The Bank Details Validation feature (UK only) is always available, subject to the purchase of a BankWizard license directly from Eiger Systems.
- The INDICIUS Statistics Reporter license has been removed. This module is now always available.
- The option of licensing using legacy HASP dongles has been removed.
Certification on Presentation Server\Terminal Services
The INDICIUS keying modules (Document Review, Correction, and Completion) have now been certified for use on Presentation Server 4.0 and Microsoft Terminal Services when installed on Windows 2000/2003.

3. What versions of Ascent Capture is the INDICIUS 5.5 product certified to work with?
INDICIUS 5.5 is certified for use with the follow Ascent 7.x products:
Ascent Capture/ACIS 7.0 SP3, 7.5 SP1, 7.5 SP2, and 7.5 SP3 Ascent Xtrata
1.5 SP2

Ascent Capture 7.0 SP3 and 7.5 SP1Note: Ascent Capture 6.1, 7.0 SP1, 7.0 SP2, and 7.5 are not supported for use with INDICIUS 5.5.4. What Ascent Capture 7.x features are certified with INDICIUS 5.5?
All aspects of the integration between INDICIUS and Ascent Capture have been extensively tested and all INDICIUS features have been demonstrated to work correctly with the new features introduced in the INDICIUS certified Ascent Capture 7.x product releases.
The following Ascent Capture 7.x features are certified with INDICIUS 5.5. (Click here to see the unsupported Ascent Capture 7.x features.)
Auto-foldering
Folders created manually or by the auto-foldering process may be used within a batch processed by INDICIUS modules.
The INDICIUS modules (except for Document Review – see below) ignore folders but process the documents contained within one or more levels of folders. Documents are processed in a depth-first manner with respect to the folder hierarchy, i.e. documents in folders are processed before documents not in folders.
The INDICIUS Document Review module supports only a single folder level and can utilize this by optionally displaying folders within the batch to the user.
The values of folder-level custom storage strings cannot currently be set or retrieved by INDICIUS modules.
Folders may not be used with scripted document separation (configured using the DocSep object in Recognition). eDocuments
INDICIUS supports the presence of eDocument files within a batch. Currently Adobe PDFs, text files and email bodies can be viewed and processed. Any documents of an unsupported file format will be processed with the batch. However, Recognition will not extract any content and the documents will not be viewable in the keying modules. Index data stored on the documents will be maintained. Any multi-page PDF documents must be converted to multiple single-page files prior to the first INDICIUS module. Email Import
Ascent Capture Email Import (ACEI) can be used with the INDICIUS modules. However the INDICIUS Email Batch Converter (available on the installation CD) must be used to convert the batch created by Email Import to a format supported by INDICIUS.
Important: INDICIUS uses .NET Framework 2.0. The ACEI plug-in for Administration in Ascent 7.0x and 7.5x is not compatible with .NET 2.0 (SPR00026399). To resolve this incompatibility, create an admin.exe.config file to bind Administration to the correct .NET version. See the knowledge base article http://knowledgebase.kofax.com/faqsearch/results.aspx?QAID=6424 for further information. Ascent Xtrata
The INDICIUS Recognition module can utilize registration and classification information determined by Ascent Xtrata.
For more information about using Xtrata with INDICIUS, see the INDICIUS Help (“ImportCoords” and “DocumentType” topics in the Parameter Help section). SQL Server Support
INDICIUS supports the use of the SQL Server database and this database configuration option must be used in high availability solutions.
NOTE: INDICIUS does not support the storage of batches in a SQL Server database. This option is not required in a high availability environment and must not be used. Click here for further information on Storing Batches in SQL Server.I
ACIS 7.x
INDICIUS may be used in an ACIS 7.0 SP2, 7.5 SP1, 7.5 SP2, or 7.5 SP3 environment, and INDICIUS modules may be installed and used on both central and remote sites. A copy of the configuration files assigned to the batch class must be present on all sites and the path to these files must be the same as that specified in Ascent Administration (on the central site). VRS QC Later
INDICIUS modules can be used within a batch class utilizing VRS QC Later. High Availability Installations
INDICIUS is certified as a high availability solution and supports the high availability features of Ascent Capture. In order to use INDICIUS in this environment, the 'Store batches in SQL Server' option must be disabled. See the separate section below on Support for High Availability Features
5. Does INDICIUS 5.5 support the high availability features of Ascent Capture 7.x?
Yes, INDICIUS 5.5 is certified as a high availability solution. INDICIUS supports the high availability features of the INDICIUS supported Ascent Capture 7.x product releases; further details are described below.
Support for High Availability Features
Automatic Batch Recovery/RollbackINDICIUS only supports batch rollback, not batch recovery. This means that the batch is restored to the state it was in at the start of the session; data read or keyed in the failed session is not recovered. This is the case even if batches are stored in an SQL Server database.
Backup License Servers
Recognition/Scripted Export will seamlessly switch to using volume licenses on the backup license server during a failover. Correction, Completion and Document Review will correctly reacquire station licenses from the backup license server after a failover
Database and File System RetriesIn the event of a cluster failover event, all batch processing will but be put on hold but will automatically continue when the high availability file system is restored. If the retry period expires before the file system becomes available, the module will attempt to send the batch to the Quality Control error queue. If the module is unable to place the batch into an error state, it will remain In Progress until Ascent Capture automatically rolls it back to its previous state (this may take up to twenty minutes).
Enhanced SQL Server SupportINDICIUS supports the use of the SQL Server database.
Note: Storing batches in the SQL Server database is not required for high availability and is not supported
Operating INDICIUS in a High Availability Environment
System Operator
Watch for any serious slowdown in application performance, or "hanging" of the application, which may indicate a server failure. If you experience this, contact your systems administrator. Do not attempt to close the batch. When the system recovers, the module will become active again and you will be able to continue processing the batch. If you experience any error messages while processing batches, immediately contact your systems administrator. If possible, try to record information about the batch you were processing, which document the error occurred on, what action you were performing at the time of the error and, if possible, the full text of the error messages seen.
Systems AdministratorMonitor Ascent Batch Manager periodically to check for batches sent to Error/Quality Control. These will need to be restarted and may indicate a module failure.
Use third party monitoring tools to monitor the status of the Recognition and Scripted Export service
6. What Ascent Capture 7.x features are NOT certified with INDICIUS 5.5?
The following Ascent Capture 7.x features are NOT suported with INDICIUS 5.5.
INDICIUS supports the use of the SQL Server database and this database configuration option must be used in high availability solutions.
INDICIUS does not support the storage of batches in SQL Server database. The Store batches in SQL Server option should be disabled, and the batches should be stored in the default location.
Note: One of the key benefits of storing batches in an SQL database is that it provides the ability to recover data entered during a session which terminated prematurely. Since INDICIUS does not output data to the database until the batch is closed, this option would provide no benefit to the INDICIUS part of a solution. IMPORTANT: Batches do not need to be stored in an SQL Server database to make a system highly available.
Table fields
There is no support in INDICIUS for writing INDICIUS table fields to Ascent table fields (INDICIUS maintains
support for writing table fields to one or more Ascent index fields). Security Boost
There is no support in INDICIUS for operating in an environment utilizing the Ascent Security Boost feature. Instant Batch Notification
INDICIUS modules do not support the Instant Batch Notification feature. However, this feature can be emulated by
setting a module to “Wait for Any Task”. Partial Batch Release
The Document Review module does not support the use of the Partial Batch Release feature.
