VRS 4.2 History

The VRS 4.2 product was released on 02/26/08.

If you are upgrading to VRS 4.2 from an earlier VRS version, keep the following guidelines in mind:

• You can install VRS 4.2 over an existing version of VRS 3.5 or VRS 4.x. It is not necessary to remove VRS 3.5 or VRS 4.x before upgrading to VRS 4.2. When installing VRS 4.2 over an existing instance of VRS 3.5, the installer will display a message to indicate that it has detected the earlier version. In this case, click Continue and then proceed with the installation procedure according to the instructions in the VirtualReScan (VRS) 4.2 Installation Guide.

• Customers currently using a licensed version of VRS 3.5 will need to purchase an upgrade to VRS 4.2 Professional (part number UP-0001-0004).
• You cannot install VRS 4.2 successfully over a version of VRS that is earlier than VRS 3.5.

What is New in VRS 4.2

New Features

In VRS 4.2, the following additions have been made to the product feature set:

• Desktop Productivity features that give you the ability to scan directly from an email application, your Windows Desktop, or Windows Explorer
• Expanded support for blank page detection and deletion
• Improvements to the Advanced Clarity and Auto Orientation features
• Support for bar code recognition, endorsing, and compression formats with TWAIN-based
  scanning applications
• Expanded support for image storage and compression formats with ImageControls-based
  scanning applications
• Support for Microsoft Windows Vista
