General VRS 4.2 Questions
1. What are the new features
in VRS 4.2?
In VRS 4.2, the following additions have been made to the
product feature set:
- Desktop Productivity features that give you the ability
to scan directly from an email application, your Windows
Desktop, or Windows Explorer
- Expanded support for blank page detection and deletion
- Improvements to the Advanced Clarity and Auto Orientation
features
- Support for bar code recognition, endorsing, and compression
formats with TWAIN-based
scanning applications
- Expanded support for image storage and compression formats
with ImageControls-based
scanning applications
- Support for Microsoft Windows Vista
For more information on these new features, refer to the VirtualReScan
(VRS) 4.2 User’s Guide, or the VRS online Help (in order for the help file
to function correctly, it must
saved to a local drive with a .chm extension).
2. What are the VRS 4.2
system requirements?
A detailed description of the VirtualReScan (VRS)
4.2 system requirements can be found on the VRS 4.2 Supported
Configurations Web page, click here to move to that page.
3. Does VRS 4.2 run under
Windows Vista?
VRS 4.2 is certified to run on a Microsoft Widnows Vista
operating system (Enterprsie and Business editions, 32-bit
or 64-bit).
Important: To use VRS with Windows
Vista, your scanner must have a Vista-certified driver. Check
with the manufacturer to confirm that your scanner will work
with Vista. You can use VRS with USB scanners in a Windows
Vista environment, but SCSI scanners currently are not supported
by Windows Vista 64-bit edition. You can consult
the Kofax Web site at www.kofax.com for updated information
related to operating systems and service packs.
User Account Control
You must turn off User Account Control while you are installing
or uninstalling VRS 4.2 on a computer where the Windows Vista
operating system is running.
- To turn off User Account Control
- Log in to Windows Vista under the account that will be
used when you install or uninstall VRS 4.2.
- From Control Panel, select User Accounts | Turn User
Account Control on or off.
- Clear the check box labeled “Use User Account Control
(UAC) to help protect your computer,” and then click
OK.
- Restart your computer and proceed with the installation
or uninstall process.
- After you install or uninstall VRS 4.2, turn on User
Account Control again, according to your preferences.
Windows Vista Incompatibility with Some Scanners
The following scanners are not certified to work with VRS in
a Windows Vista environment: (SPR00029343)
- Kodak i100 series
- Kodak i200 series
- Kodak i600 series
- Panasonic KV-S1020C, KV-S1025C, and KV-S2048
Scanner Communication Issue
Some scanner manufacturers have not certified their scanner
drivers to work in a Windows Vista environment. As
a result, you may notice that a reserved scanner loses its
ability to communicate with the scanning application if the
application is closed and reopened. In this situation,
you might receive an error message indicating that the scanner
could not be detected, even though it worked successfully
in a previous scanning session. (SPR00029426, SPR00034748)
Workaround: Once you power cycle the
scanner and restart the computer, communications between
the scanner and the scanning application are restored.
4. Does VRS 4.2 require
Microsoft .NET Framework, and if yes, what version
is required?
Yes VRS 4.2 required Microsoft .NET Framework
2.0.
The VRS 4.2 installer checks to determine
if Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 exists already
on your computer. If
not, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is installed
automatically during the VRS installation. If
other applications on your computer rely on
the Microsoft .NET Framework, you should verify
that the installation of version 2.0 does not
introduce any compatibility issues. For
more information, refer to your Microsoft .NET Framework
documentation.
