5. What are the benefits of integrating Capio 1.5 and Ascent Capture?
Capio 1.5 as a client for Ascent Capture provides simplified, transactional scanning, which is perfect for knowledge workers or the lowest volume distributed environments. Capio is easy-to-use, single screen application that leverages existing Microsoft Office skills. In addition, Ascent Capture is the market leading production document capture system. It has numerous capabilities that can add value to documents sent from Capio, including the following:
Formatted Data Entry. When entering a document in Capio destined for Ascent Capture, the user enters formatted index fields, which are validated using both default and customized validation rules.
Recognition Capabilities. Ascent Capture has a rich set of recognition capabilities to allow index information to be automatically extracted from images. Technologies include bar code, patch code, OCR, ICR, OMR, image-based classification, and text-based classification.
Document Transformation Capabilities. Ascent Capture has the capability to convert image formats into PDF (Image only, Text over Image, Text under Image, Image+Text), Microsoft Word, HTML, Excel, Text, and numerous other electronic formats.
Business Process Flexibility. Ascent Capture has a robust capture workflow that can include default as well as custom-written modules. The workflow logic itself can be further customized with a Workflow Agent.
Delivery to Back-End Systems. Ascent Capture has a plethora of Release Script connectors that allow you to route documents to numerous document management, workflow, and ERP systems.
6. What are the benefits of allowing knowledge workers to introduce documents to my Ascent Capture Workflow?
Introducing documents to any workflow at the point they are created or determined necessary saves money! Scanning them onsite instead of shipping them to a central site saves transportation costs. Introducing documents and data early typically qualifies organizations for early payment discounts in a Payables solution, and increases customer satisfaction when business-critical data needs to be retrieved from paper. In addition, knowledge workers have expertise with their documents, understanding the proper data to index, the urgency of the content and their appropriate destination.
7. Are there any other benefits?
Yes, Capio 1.5 makes sense for the lowest volume distributed solutions, or for “Ad Hoc” scanning environments. It is not only easy to use, but easy to install and configure. Capio does not require any Ascent Capture or Ascent Capture Internet Server components, it has a small footprint, and it is scalable via LAN/WAN or Internet.
Yes! Capio 1.5 automatically downloads and executes document validation scripts that have been defined in the Ascent Capture Administration module.
9. I have an existing Validation Script written for the Ascent Capture Validation Module. Will it work properly in Capio 1.5?
Yes… there may be a few cases where modifications are required. For compatibility details, see the Kofax knowledgebase at www.kofax.com.
10. What languages can I used to perform Validation scripting in Capio 1.5?
As with Ascent Capture, Capio 1.5 uses Softbridge Basic Language (SBL). This language is roughly 90% compatible with Microsoft’s Visual Basic. If desired, you can create COM objects in other languages, such as C#, Visual Basic.NET, Visual Basic, or C++ and invoke them from an SBL script.
11. Can I edit Validation scripts in Capio 1.5?
No. All script development is done in the Ascent Capture Administration module.
12. Can I pre-configure the necessary Capio/Ascent Capture settings for my Capio 1.5 users?
Yes. All settings related to Ascent Capture connectivity can be pre-configured in an XML configuration file.

No. Capio 1.5 does not require any Ascent Capture software to be installed in order to communicate with Ascent Capture on another machine.
15. How do I decide when to user Capio 1.5 and Ascent Collection Server or ACI server?
Your choice depends on expected usage.
Capio 1.5 is the easiest distributed client software to install and configure, and it is also the easiest to use. Capio is ideal for a single-station, distributed client that is performing document-based scanning. Capio is also best for scanning at speeds below 40 pages per minute.
ACI Server is a mechanism of configuring a full-fledged Ascent Capture installation to send documents to another installation (a “central site”). ACI Server is ideal when the remote site is going to scan batches (multiple documents), requires multiple users to collaborate, or when complex workflows may be involved.
16. Are Ascent Capture database validations supported in Capio 1.5?
No. Capio 1.5 does not currently support the Ascent Capture Database Validation feature. If database lookups are required, you can add them as part of your Validation Script.
