2. What are the Operating Requirements for AIPE 4.0?

Because AIPE is a software-based engine, performance is highly dependent on the power and configuration of the host PC and peripherals, which should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Pentium III 450 class machine, or better
  • 128Mbytes of RAM
  • Appropriate SCSI, IEEE 1394b (FireWire), or USB adapter for scanning

For specific PC requirements, refer to your scanner documentation or use the Kofax Scanner Configurator.

AIPE may be installed on the following operating systems:

  • Windows 2000 Professional
  • Windows XP Professional

Note: To check for additional information related to system requirements, visit the Kofax Scanner Configurator or the Knowledgebase.

3. What is the difference between certified and comparable scanning devices?

Kofax recognizes two scanner device categories: certified devices and compatible devices.

Certified Devices
Certified devices have been thoroughly tested by Kofax and have met all the necessary requirements. Kofax authorizes and supports the use of these devices. When a scanner is certified, it means that:

  • Kofax maintains two or more units in-house for development and testing purposes.
  • The scanner is tested with Kofax product releases.
  • Kofax is responsible for providing support for any field-reported bugs.

Compatible Devices

Compatible devices have not gone through the testing process at Kofax. The device may work with Kofax products, but because it has not been tested, the device cannot be guaranteed. The scanner vendor is responsible for supporting field-reported bugs for compatible devices. When a scanner is compatible, it means that:

  • Kofax does not maintain the unit in-house for development and testing purposes.
  • The scanner is not tested with Kofax product releases.
  • Application vendors are responsible for verifying that the scanner works with their applications.
  • Kofax does not support the device.

Use the Kofax Scanner Configurator to determine if a scanner is certified or compatible.
