AIPE 4.0 for Adrenaline 450/650/650i History

The Adrenaline Image Processing Engine (AIPE) version 4.0 for the Adrenaline EH-650 & EH-650i boards was released on 04/28/05. It replaced the AIPE 3.75B for the Adrenaline EH-650 & EH-650i boards release as the currently supported release for the Adrenaline Image Processing Engine for the Adrenaline EH-650 & EH-650i boards.

What is new in 4.0

New AIPE 4.0 for Adrenaline 450/650/650i Features

With the release of AIPE 4.0 for the Adrenaline EH-650 & EH-650i boards, the Adrenaline Image Processing Engine product release was incorporated into the VirtualReScan (VRS) 4.0 product release. The AIPE 4.0 for the Adrenaline EH-650 & EH-650i boards is also available on a separate non-VRS CD.

Using AIPE 4.0 for Adrenaline 650/650i

Installation and operation of the AIPE 4.0 for Adrenaline 650/650i product, with or without VRS 4.0, allows a user to do the following with:
  • PDFs
    • Use their scanner to create a PDF
    • Import a PDF from another source
    • View PDF files
    • Save a file as a PDF from another image file format
  • Bar Codes:
    • Capture and read Standard bar codes
    • Capture and read Enhanced bar codes
    • Switch between bar code algorithms

    With AIPE, the ability to capture and read bar codes has been greatly expanded through the application of color technology. Because color images provide more information to assist in bar code interpretation, this enhanced bar code reader is able to achieve more accurate readings of all supported bar code types at low dpi levels and varying levels of quality.

    The Enhanced Bar Code also has the ability to work with grayscale images in addition to having improved bitonal recognition capability. Another significant advancement is the support of two-dimensional (2-D) formats.

Using VRS with the Adrenaline Image Processing Engine

The VRS for Workgroup/Departmental Scanners license and the VRS for Production Scanners license both support the Adrenaline Image Processing Engine (AIPE), which offers image processing features such as standard bar code reading, forms recognition, line removal, and much more. As an option, Enhanced Bar Code recognition is also available with AIPE. See the Enhanced Bar Code Engine appendix in the VRS User’s Manual for more information on how to take full advantage of this functionality.

Note: Because AIPE features are supported only with ImageControls-based and ISIS based applications, the AIPE capabilities will not work with TWAIN applications. If you need these capabilities in connection with a TWAIN application, you can download the Adrenaline TWAIN Data Source from the Kofax Web site.

Kofax Adrenaline Support

Kofax provides two types of support for all non-legacy Kofax Adrenaline (650 & 650i models only) products, listed below.

  • “No-Charge”
    “No-Charge” support consists of Web-Based support that includes the Kofax Knowledgebase and the Kofax Customer Portal for customers with a Kofax Adrenaline (650 & 650i models only) product currently under warranty.
  • "Fee-Based"
    "Fee-Based" telephone support from Kofax is available for all non-legacy Kofax Adrenaline (650 & 650i models only) product customers whose board is not under warranty.
