General Kofax Express 1.1 Questions

What is Kofax Express?
Kofax Express is an easy-to-use, batch-oriented document scan application capable of high-speed scanning with real-time image display, indexing, and bar code detection. VirtualReScan (VRS) technology is built into the application to ensure optimal image quality. Kofax Express can release captured content to a folder that is accessible to your document management or storage system. Kofax Express can also release content to Kofax Capture or Microsoft SharePoint.
Kofax Express supports low-volume, mid-volume, and high-volume scanning.
2. What is the difference between Kofax Express and Kofax Capture?
Kofax Express is designed for basic batch scanning, while Kofax Capture is an enterprise-level solution that supports the following advanced features:
- Separate stations for indexing, verification, or release
- Custom modules
- Scripting
- Multiple document classes
- Classification
- Distributed scanning
Kofax Capture is the perfect upgrade to Kofax Express when you need additional features and enhanced scalability.
3. How many Kofax Express 1.1 license levels are there?
There are six license levels available to match the type of scanner you are using:
- Kofax Express Desktop: typically up to 25 ppm Kofax Express Workgroup: typically up to 50 ppm
- Kofax Express Production Low-Volume: approximately 80 ppm
- Kofax Express Production Mid-Volume: approximately 90 ppm
- Kofax Express Production High-Volume: approximately 100 ppm
- Kofax Express Production Super High-Volume: typically more than 120 ppm

4. How do I determine which license level is right for me
Visit the Kofax Scanner Configurator. Alternatively, consult the Kofax Express Scanner Certification list.
Please note that occasionally Kofax categorizes scanners differently than their manufacturers do (for example, the manufacturer's "Workgroup" scanner may be classified by Kofax as a Desktop scanner; or the manufacturer's "Production" scanner may be classified by Kofax as a Workgroup scanner).

5. Are there differences among the license levels?
There is no difference in the feature set; all Kofax Express features are available with each license level.

6.Is Kofax Express available in different languages?
Yes, Kofax Express 1.1 is available in the following languages:
- English
- French
- Spanish
- German
- Italian
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- Chinese (Simplified)
- Japanese
- Russian
The Kofax Express installer automatically detects the locale associated with your Windows operating system and installs the appropriate localized edition of the product. If the installer detects a locale that is not associated with the preceding list of supported languages, Kofax Express is installed in English.
To ensure that Kofax Express is installed in the language you desire, please verify that the system locale is properly defined for your Windows operating system.
Note that if you install Kofax Express on a computer where European Portuguese or Traditional Chinese is the selected locale for the Windows operating system, the application will be installed in English. Displaying Kofax Express in Portuguese (Brazil) or Chinese (Simplified) requires the system locale to be set to Portuguese (Brazil) or Chinese (Simplified).

7. What is the best way to locate answers to my Kofax Express questions?
The Kofax Express Getting Started Guide included in the disk case will guide you through the installation procedure. The guide is also available in PDF format on the installation disk and in the Product Documentation section of the Kofax Express 1.1 Downloads Web page..
A 10-minute, narrated tutorial is also available to learn about the application. To view the tutorial, select the Help tab, go to the Help group, and click the Tutorial button. As another option, click here to go to the Kofax Express tutorial located on this Web site.
Online Help is available by clicking F1 at any time while Kofax Express is running, by clicking the question mark button in the upper right corner of the interface, or by clicking the Help button on the Help tab.

What's new in Kofax Express 1.1
1. Supported scanners
Kofax Express is certified with a wide range of industry-standard scanners, and new scanners are certified on a regular basis. Kofax Express 1.1 now also offers the possibility to connect to any scanner that is certified with VRS through its ISIS driver. Although some scanners are not yet Kofax Express certified, they can be used with the application in a compatible mode.
The Kofax Express 1.1 scanner categories are as follows:
- Certified: The scanner is thoroughly tested with the Kofax Express feature set. Advanced features (multifeed, color drop out, and feeder speed), if available from the scanner, are available directly from the Kofax Express interface.
- Certified*: The scanner is tested with the Kofax Express feature set. Advanced features (multifeed, color drop out, and feeder speed), even if available from the scanner, are configured through the scanner driver instead of the Kofax Express interface.
- Compatible: The scanner is not tested with Kofax Express. Advanced features (multifeed, color drop out, and feeder speed) are configured through the scanner driver instead of the Kofax Express interface.
2. Electronic licensing
Kofax Express has moved to electronic licensing. To activate your Kofax Express license, you will have to enter the following license information:

The application will then connect to the Kofax Express license server through the Internet to validate your license and activate it by providing a license code. If no Internet access is available on your workstation, follow the onscreen instructions that explain how to activate the license from another computer.
3. Improved Performance in 300 DPI and high-speed scanners
Kofax Express now includes enhancements that extend support for high-volume scanners and high resolutions on multi-core computers.

4. Cut/Copy and Paste functionality
Kofax Express 1.1 supports the ability to paste one or more images into existing documents after cutting or copying them onto the Clipboard in Windows Explorer. The image formats supported are JPEG, PDF, TIFF and BMP.
With this new feature, you can paste images that are scanned with an MFP or generated with non-scanner equipment. This feature is not intended to process large batches of documents, but it does give you with the ability to import color or grayscale images and then convert them to black and white. Once pasted into Kofax Express, VRS corrections are available for your original color or grayscale images.

5. Enhanced language support
Kofax Express support for localized languages (refer to FAQ 6 in the preceding section) has been expanded in this release to include Japanese and Russian.
Also, it is now possible to change the language of Kofax Express 1.1 by changing the language in your system locale prior to starting Kofax Express. For details, see the release notes.
