1. What is Kofax Business Interaction Server and what does it do?
Kofax Business Interaction Server is a software product. It provides customers and business partners with immediate feedback regarding their inquiry, request, invoice or application. This can be
- a confirmation of receipt which assures customers or partners that their message was successfully received.
- a message notifying the respective person – also internal knowledge-workers – of the status of a transaction or of missing/wrong data or documents.
2. What kind of fields can be imported to the Kofax Business Interaction Server 1.0 product?
The following fields can be imported in to Business Kofax Interaction Server.
- Ascent Capture Document and Batch fields
- Ascent Xtrata Pro fields
- XML (which is generated during the publish process of Ascent Administration, if BIS Ascent Add-ins are installed.
3. Are there any installation guidelines to follow when installing the Ascent Capture Add-ins for Kofax Business Interaction Server?
Yes, to use the Ascent Capture Add-ins in an Ascent Capture Internet (ACI) Server environment, the
Add-ins must be installed as follows:
- At the computer where your ACI Server is running, install the Release Script and the
Configuration Utility.- At the Ascent Capture remote workstations, install the Xtrata Pro Validation Add-in and the Configuration Utility. To configure the Ascent Capture Add-ins, you must then use the standalone Configuration Utility, which is included in the Ascent Capture Add-ins installation. Refer to – Ascent Capture Add-ins Configuration Utility on page 2 of the Kofax Business Interaction Server Release Notes for information about how to open the standalone Business Interaction Server - Ascent Capture Add-ins Configuration window.
4. What users are created during the Kofax Business Interaction Server 1.0 installation?
When Kofax Business Interaction Server and its prerequisites are installed, the following users are
created automatically:
- “admin” (password “admin”): Portal user used for logging on to Kofax Administration Console.
- “username” (password “username”): Portal user used for testing the connection to the fax server.
Important: If you delete the user “username”, the Test Connection button of the Fax Connector configuration wizard will be inoperative.
- “admin” (password “admin”): Server user used for connecting to Business Interaction Server and deploying workflows.
Important: You can change this user’s password and username in Kofax Administration Console. After a Business Interaction Server update, the default credentials are restored in the configuration file avalin_startup_deployer.properties, usually located in C:\Program Files\Kofax\Business Interaction Server\Avalin\Jboss\server\avalin\conf. Therefore, you must specify the user credentials in this file after each Business Interaction Server update. Finally, restart BISService to deploy the workflows.- “postgres” (password “postgres”): Windows user needed to run PostgreSQL as a service.
- “postgres” (password “postgres”): Database user used by Business Interaction Server to connect to PostgreSQL.
5. How do I use the "To" field of the BIS Ascent Xtrata Pro plug-in to define the recipients email address or fax number?
A special field named ACCRecipient is linked to the “To” field in the Business Interaction Server - Notification window of the Ascent Xtrata Pro Validation Add-in. In order for Business Interaction Server to use the information given in the “To” field, you must create the field ACCRecipient in Kofax Template Designer and associate it with either an email address or fax number. If you also want to use the Release Script, be sure to assign the Address type Email address or Fax number to ACCRecipient and to correspondingly change the Address type of either BIS_Email1 or BIS_Fax1 to Second email address or Second fax number.
6. How does the Kofax Business Interaction Server 1.0 product know which media to use to contact the respective person?
There are basically two ways that the Kofax Business Interaction Server knows which media to use.
- Recipient information is provided by the application which triggers the message
In this case e.g. Ascent Capture provides all the information via the batch or document fields. Business Interaction Server can use the email or fax information provided as index fields and send the message to the correct recipient. This method applies if the information is available already in Ascent Capture or Ascent Xtrata Pro.(by connecting to a database and via scripts) and happens on the part of Business Interaction Server.
- Recipient information is stored in a database or in a user directory
Business Interaction Server can be configured to connect to an existing customer database or user directory which contains all the necessary customer data, including preferences regarding the media for contact.
If, for example, an incoming document contains only the customer number, Business Interaction Server will perform a lookup in the company’s database or directory and thus find other essential information like name, address, fax number, language, etc.
Utilizing the respective person’s preference profile, Business Interaction Server can respond via email or fax (configurable in rules).
Kofax Business Interaction Server supports the following databases and directories:Databases User Directories
Microsoft SQL Database Microsoft Active Directory
MySQL Database OpenLDAP
Microsoft Access DB
PostgreSQL Database Server
7. How can customers change their personal preferences in the Kofax Business Interaction Server product?
Typically, a company already has an existing portal where users can define their profiles. Frequently, companies provide a web portal for their customers to enter their contact information..If this information is then stored in a database or user directory, the information can be used by Business Interaction Server (lookup feature is available in the Administration Console and Kofax Template Designer).
Kofax Business Interaction Server does not install its own portal.
