Technology Alliance Partner Program

The Kofax Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) Program is intended for a select group of software, technology and application vendors who are in alignment with Kofax corporate goals. Participating companies include input device manufacturers, third-party independent software vendors (ISVs), application developers and general technology partners. The common thread among these partners is that they offer solutions that complement and extend beyond the range of products offered by Kofax.

The TAP Program establishes mutually beneficial business relationships for the purpose of selling our products together into our joint target market. The program enables partners to combine their solutions, consulting, and systems integration with the strength of complimentary Kofax products and industry expertise.

Participation in the TAP Program brings multiple sales and marketing benefits to our partners:

  • It expands the partner’s services and solutions with the leading information capture products in the marketplace.
  • It increases the partner’s market visibility through Kofax promotion of the solution.
  • It ensures successful development and deployment through access to Kofax tools and resources.

The ideal alliance has the following characteristics:

  • Increased market value through the combination of products and services.
  • Opportunity for revenue growth.
  • Commitment and support from management and sales.
  • Ability to execute joint projects, programs and plans.
  • Shared corporate values.
  • Clear goals and roles.
  • Shared risks, shared rewards.

Technology Partner Solutions

Kofax products combine to form the Operating System of Capture™, a modular and open platform that collects documents and data, transforms them into useful information, and delivers the results into databases, content management systems and other vital enterprise systems.

TAPs provide complementary technologies that Kofax does not intend to develop, and that extend our out-of-the-box capture process to create “whole product” solutions that meet specific business requirements.

TAP solutions typically focus on one of three key areas:

Collection

Technology that simplifies or improves the acquisition of data from scanners, multi-function peripherals (such as digital copiers), fax machines/servers and a variety of other devices. The solution may be hardware or software, and may be developed, tested, supported and resold by either Kofax or the partner.

Customization

Technology that enhances and extends the capabilities of the Kofax Ascent® platform to meet specific import, recognition, forms processing, validation or other business needs. The partner solution is often an Ascent custom module that plugs into the Ascent workflow. The solution may be developed, tested, supported and resold by either Kofax or the partner.

Delivery

Technology that enables or simplifies the integration of Kofax products with a content management system, database, or other enterprise information system. The partner solution is often an Ascent release script designed to deliver transformed information (content plus associated contextual information) from Ascent into a specific system. These scripts may be developed and maintained by either Kofax or the partner.


Alliance Categories

The TAP Program offers three categories of participation based on the level of collaboration, commitment and loyalty between Kofax and the partner:

  • Technology Alliance Partner
  • Select Technology Alliance Partner
  • Strategic Technology Alliance Partner

Technology Alliance Partner

This is the "entry level" of the program. TAPs can include both Ascent and Image Processing partners. A TAP either uses tools provided by Kofax to develop, maintain and fully support an integration between Ascent and their product, or uses Image Processing products and tools to develop their own application or test their application with Kofax products. TAPs test and promote their own application or integration.

Select Technology Alliance Partner

A Select TAP is a hardware or software partner whose product has been tested and endorsed by Kofax but is marketed and supported by the partner. Examples include scanner manufacturers that work with Kofax to have their hardware certified with Kofax products, and software vendors who have had their application tested with Kofax VRS. As of the launch of this program there are no Select TAPs associated with the Ascent platform, since Kofax has not yet certified and endorsed any partner-supported integrations with that product. Select TAP status requires an ongoing commitment between Kofax and the partner.

Strategic Technology Alliance Partner

A Strategic TAP is strategic to core Kofax business objectives. They provide a product that Kofax does not intend to develop, but that is important in a specific portion of our market. They have a strong or commanding presence in their segment of the market, an install base, a national presence (and preferably a global one) and an existing channel to market their product.

Kofax resells or co-sells a product solution with Strategic TAPs as a key component of the Kofax Operating System of Capture. The product integrations are typically available as a line item on the Kofax price list. Examples include Ascent custom modules that are developed by the partner but marketed by Kofax, and Ascent release scripts that are maintained and sold by Kofax.

Depending on the relationship, Kofax or the partner (or both) will make the investment to develop the integration. The partner may also decide to resell Kofax products.

Strategic TAPs invest heavily in the alliance and receive the highest level of program commitment from Kofax, including executive involvement. Kofax also invests heavily by promoting and supporting the integration. Kofax Professional Services may also be offered to augment the solution.


Services for Technology Alliance Partners

Kofax provides a number of services to our partners to assure mutual success. TAP members are often also Kofax Certified Solutions Providers and will have access to additional services in that program.

  • Dedicated alliance management. A dedicated manager handles ongoing relationship management at Kofax corporate headquarters: tap_kfx@kofax.com. The manager assures the mutual success of partnerships that drive business for Kofax.
  • Partner extranet. Partners will have access to an on-line repository of partner-specific sales, marketing and technical tools.
  • Listing on Kofax web site. Kofax will provide a list of TAPs on the Kofax web site based on their partnership category.
  • Electronic newsletter. Partners will receive an e-mail/on-line newsletter.
  • Kofax TAP logo. A Kofax TAP logo is available to promote our joint relationship.
  • Press releases. Kofax or the TAP may initiate joint press releases. Kofax will provide quotes for partner-created press releases that have been approved by Kofax MarCom.
  • Sales support. Kofax Regional Sales Managers (RSMs) have discretion within their territory and will work with TAPs based on program level and resource availability. RSMs can direct their resources to assist partners with RFPs, sales training, and so on.
  • Joint events. Kofax encourages partners to work with us to develop or participate in joint seminars, exhibits at tradeshows and conferences, and webinars.
  • Collateral. Kofax develops collateral for products that Kofax sells or co-sells. We will work with partners to develop joint collateral promoting our product integration.

Pre-Sales Support

Kofax supports partner sales efforts with regional teams of dedicated Kofax sales personnel who are compensated based on your success. They are available for you to draw on as needed, and can provide help with every aspect of the sales process, including joint sales calls, configuration assistance, and customer demonstrations. Regional sales team are composed of:

  • A Regional Sales Manager
  • An Associate Sales Manager (larger sales regions only)
  • A Regional Sales Engineer
  • A Sales Support Specialist

Technical (Post-Sales) Support

Kofax provides phone support at no charge to partners when:

  • The person contacting Technical Support is a Kofax Certified Professional on the product and version for which support is requested.
  • The product is currently supported.

If you require technical support for Ascent but do not have a Kofax Certified Professional:

  1. Check the Kofax web site at www.kofax.com/support/, which contains extensive FAQs and support information.
  2. Get someone certified using Kofax Ascent Computer-Based Training. This is the easiest and fastest way to meet the certification requirements. (See details later in this handbook.)
  3. Contact the regional sales team, who may be able to assist with basic issues.
  4. Engage Kofax Professional Services Group to provide more extensive services and support for your customer.

Kofax Professional Services

Kofax Professional Services provides consulting resources dedicated to helping you deliver customized Ascent solutions. This service is offered exclusively to our partners and will not be offered to end-users. The goal is to supplement your own services, not to compete with you.

A typical Professional Services engagement might include:

  • Performing a needs analysis and supplying a user requirements document.
  • Configuring Ascent Capture.
  • Providing form design consultation.
  • Programming custom release scripts.
  • Training end-users on day-to-day Ascent operations.
  • Installing and configuring Ascent Capture Internet Server.

Joining the Program

An online application for new TAPs is available. The Alliance Manager reviews each application and may contact you for additional information. If a Kofax employee has recommended you, please include that information on the application. You will be notified by e-mail that your application has been received and given the status of the application.

Partners may participate in multiple Kofax partner programs. For example, many TAPs will also become Kofax Certified Solutions Providers to resell Kofax products.

A TAP that is developing Ascent custom modules or release scripts but that does not intend to resell Ascent needs to purchase the Partner Kit RP-1500-0003. List price is $3,000. The kit contains:

  • Ascent Capture Reseller Evaluation Copy (2500-batch license)
  • Ascent Capture Evaluation Copy (dongle only, 250-batch license)
  • Ascent Capture Computer-Based Training (partner version)
  • Ascent Training Vouchers (partner version): 1 Ascent Capture (good for one additional CBT or one classroom course), 1 Customizing Ascent (good for one classroom course)
  • VRS Demo Kit

A partner that is also a Kofax Certified Solutions Provider already has these items as part of that program and does not need to purchase this kit.

Getting Up to Speed as a New Partner

TAPs that are working with Ascent must have at least one Kofax Certified Professional.

Certification is crucial to the success of the combined product solution and the partnership:

  • Ascent technical support is available only to Kofax Certified Professionals who are certified on the Ascent product/version with which they need assistance.
  • Partners who plan to resell or integrate Ascent products must have at least one Kofax Certified Professional in Ascent Capture within 30 days of joining the program.
  • Resellers/integrators of Ascent remote applications and the Advanced Forms Modules (Neurascript modules) must have at least one Kofax Certified Professional in the appropriate Ascent products prior to the first sale.

An individual becomes a Kofax Certified Professional in Ascent Capture when they pass the certification exam that is included in the Ascent Computer-Based Training package, or when they pass the exam at the conclusion of a Kofax classroom training course. In either case, a score of at least 80% is required for certification.

Certification “travels” with the individual, even if they leave your company. Therefore, Kofax recommends that partners maintain at least two Kofax Certified Professionals at all times to ensure uninterrupted support.

How to Complete Product Certification

Computer-Based Training (CBT)

Kofax Ascent CBT offers the same training materials used in the Ascent Capture Technical Training course, including instructor presentations, demonstrations and hands-on labs. The self-paced training takes about 20 hours to complete, and the package includes two certification exams (additional exams may be purchased).

Currently only the basic Ascent Capture class is available as CBT.

A CBT package is also included in the starter kit sent to new Ascent Certified Solutions Providers after February 2003. The training kit contains everything a new partner needs to be quickly trained and certified on the basic Ascent Capture application.

Classroom Training

Kofax offers regularly scheduled classroom training in the US in Irvine, Calif., and Atlanta, Ga. Classes are also sometimes offered in other US locations. Click here for complete information including class schedules and online registration.

Training Vouchers

In addition to the CBT, your Partner Kit includes training vouchers. The voucher for the Ascent Capture Technical Training can be redeemed for an additional Ascent CBT or for attendance in a classroom training session. The Customizing Ascent voucher can only be redeemed for attendance in the classroom session (CBT is not currently available).

Vouchers are specific to the current version of the product and are valid until the next version is released.

These vouchers are not for resale (NFR) and can be used only by your staff to participate in Kofax training for certification. You can purchase additional NFR vouchers at a discount.
